Obstetrics and Prenatal Care

Although Dr. Goyal has helped in over two-hundred deliveries, she now primarily does shared obstetrics care.  This means that most patients are seen every three to four weeks for the first half of the pregnancy by us, and by the selected obstetrician for the second half.

Each pre-natal visit entails different areas of counselling and different tests which need to be ordered.  The initial pre-natal visit typically involves basic counselling for food, exercise, and medication safety.  Pregnancy related blood tests are ordered, along with an ultrasound in some cases.

In later weeks, additional prenatal screening tests are offered, including the IPS test. More information about this test can be found at:  http://www.prenatalscreeningontario.ca/Default.aspx?cid=98&lang=1

MotherRisk is an important pregnancy-related resource for women, in order to ask about medication and food safety.  Their free helpline number is 1-877-439-2744 and 416-813-6780. More information can be found at:  http://www.motherisk.org/women/index.jsp
